The Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) is a non-profit, educational organization dedicated to chimney and venting system safety. The CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep credential must be renewed every three years by retesting and submitting documentation of continuing education units. CSIA Certified Chimney Sweeps must pass an extensive examination on national codes and standards and demonstrate knowledge of the evaluation and maintenance of chimney venting systems. Professionals who have earned the CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep credential have demonstrated their commitment to their industry and fire and chimney safety. The CSIA has the only nationally recognized certification program for the chimney and venting service industry.

There are only five individuals in the state of Maryland that currently hold this advanced certification and less than 250 in the United States. To stay on top of ever-changing products, standards, and building codes, FIRE Certified Inspectors are required to re-certify every three years and are required to attend additional continuing education programs. We intend to reduce the number of structure fires that result in millions of dollars of property loss and personal injury every year. The goal for all FIRE Certified Inspectors is to prevent property damage and personal injury. This program includes, but is not limited to, applicable building codes, manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and fire technology. The certification program includes detailed instructions on the inspection and investigation of fireplaces, chimneys, vented appliances, and vent-free products. FIRE Certified Inspectors complete three advanced-level educational courses. The FIRE Certification program is the most advanced educational program within the hearth industry.
